Build Your Self-Esteem By Becoming a Jedi

Reading Time: 2 minutes

There is a great line from the movie Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back from Yoda, the Jedi Master (the little green guy for you non-Star Wars fans) when he’s trying to teach the hero Luke Skywalker the ways of the Force:

Yoda has just taught Luke a new Jedi lesson and Luke replies, “All right, I’ll give it a try.”

Yoda scolds him with, “No. Try not. Do…or do not. There is no try.”

Be a Jedi

Those were really words of wisdom from Yoda.

I want you to listen to Yoda.

Tell yourself: “I can do it.”

Whenever you catch yourself saying out loud or in your head, “OK, I’ll give it a try.”

STOP!

Change the phrasing to: “OK, I will do it.”

And tell yourself: “No. Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.”

It’s all mind tricks. By saying, you’ll “try”, you’re actually giving yourself an excuse, a backdoor out of not doing it.

So, stop giving yourself excuses not to make changes in your life. Excuses are your second worst enemy when it comes to improving your life. (you’ll find out later who’s enemy number one).

By applying the “there is no try” method, you eliminate excuses which keep you from making the necessary changes in your life.

What is it that you’re supposed be doing anyways?

It can be anything. Whether it’s a useful tip you learned from an article or a book, I want you to tell yourself that you will apply the lessons in your life.

Don’t “try” to apply the lessons. Apply them.

Another example would be, instead of “I’ll try to get a job.” You should be saying, “I will find myself a job.”

It’s amazing how a change in mindset and phrasing can affect how the results you achieve.

So, go and start using this Jedi mind trick to build your self-esteem.
